The short story: This website was created as a "labor of love" by a Lake County IL musician who wanted to support
the local performing arts scene by offering a central source of related information.
How we hope to help:
- Awareness : Many individual performers, as well as small and medium sized groups, don't have a large
advertising budget, and would benefit from the free exposure of a regional website viewed by a growing potential
audience which is specifically LOOKING FOR events to attend.
- Enjoyment : Patrons can attend quality performances without having to:
- commit to an entire evening out of area without time to do anything else,
- plan to leave extra early in case of traffic delays due to highway construction,
- paying a babysitter until midnight to support a trip into Chicago,
- spend as much for fuel ( ! ), spend as much time driving, or pay as much for parking
Patrons can instead:
- arrive on time after only a short, local trip... ready to enjoy the performance
- learn more about neighboring communities and performing arts venues (for next time)
- socialize with friends after the performance at a local Bistro or cafe,
- return home at a reasonable time, being glad to have gone, and still get a good night's sleep
- Practice: As area residents increasingly find out about (and attend ) performances occurring locally, venue owners
will be more likely to host events. Current (and prospective) arts students will be able to attend the typically more-affordable performances without "breaking the bank"; learners can enhance their understanding while helping to "fill
the house"... providing revenue so the artists can continue to perform. Parents will be able to expose their
prodigies-in-waiting to more of the arts. Resource listings will enable students to find quality local instruction,
professionals to find advanced coaching, customers to find merchants, and event organizers to find performers.
- Profitability: Area performers, instructors and merchants choose to live and work in Lake County, and depend on
local patronage. Likewise, the arts themselves are supported by behind-the scenes individuals and companies:
venue owners, sound and lighting technicians, stage managers, music directors, costumers and scenery builders,
piano tuners and instrument repair technicians, etc. Even adjacent eateries and parking lot owners are impacted.
Local support of the arts keeps the tax dollars working at home as well.
The stronger the BUSINESS of performing arts in Lake County... the better the arts can be for everyone involved! |
